Importing accounts and transactions from Microsoft Money

Use our custom import tool to bring your MS Money data over in just a few seconds.

Exporting your accounts and transactions from Microsoft Money

To start, you need to export your transactions for each account from Microsoft Money

  1. Open Microsoft Money Plus
  1. Click on the File menu, then select Export...
  1. In the Export window, select Strict QIF
  1. The file name and folder where the exported QIF data should be saved on your computer.

Note

Files must be OFX, QFX or QIF format. CSV file formats are not supported with the MS Money importer.


Importing your Microsoft Money files into a new PocketSmith account

Important

When importing data from another app, we recommend using a fresh PocketSmith account to avoid creating duplicate bank accounts.

If you have just started your PocketSmith journey and already have some data in your account, it's best to reset your PocketSmith before attempting to import data from your previous Personal finance management app.

Now that you have your Microsoft Money file(s) ready to import into your PocketSmith account, you can import your data with the instructions below.

  1. Create your PocketSmith account
  1. Go to the Microsoft Money importer at my.pocketsmith.com/setup/ms_money
  1. Select your exported Microsoft Money files from your computer and drag and drop them directly onto the page.
  1. PocketSmith will show you each of your uploaded accounts. Add account names, banks names and balances.
  1. When all Microsoft Money files have account names, bank names and current balances, click the Start import
  1. Once the import is complete, view the imported transactions by clicking on the Categorize [number] transactions button
  1. Hooray! You have now successfully migrated from MS Money to PocketSmith!

Importing your Microsoft Money files into an existing account within PocketSmith

  1. Head to the Account Summary page (Manage > Account Summary)
  1. Locate the account you want to upload your QIF file to and click  MANAGE ACCOUNT
  1. Select Upload bank file
  1. Drag and drop the QIF (or use the Choose file option) to add your file to this account
  1. Fill out the following form with your preferred import options and click Import transactions
