Dealing with a replacement credit or debit card

If you have received a replacement credit or debit card that has resulted in a new bank account becoming available on your feed, it's best to link this new account through to the existing account in PocketSmith, instead of creating it as a new account, which could duplicate transactions.

Overview

Replacement credit card with new account details

If you are sent a replacement credit card with slightly different bank details to your existing credit card account, a new feed account may become available in your online banking for you to add to PocketSmith. This is particularly confusing when the old card still has its own feed account which may or may not still be importing transactions, and does not show any errors.

To prevent creating duplicate accounts, it's best to link the new feed account to the existing account within PocketSmith.

First, the original account will need to be unlinked from the feed. You can then link the new feed account to the original account in order to bring in your most recent transactions, keeping all transactions in one account.

Linking the new card account from the feed through to PocketSmith

In order to link the new card account from the feed through to your existing account in PocketSmith, you'll need to:

  • Unlink the account in PocketSmith from the feed, taking it offline
  • Link the new account from the feed to the account in PocketSmith
  1. Head to the Feeds page ( Manage > Feeds)
  2. Navigate to the relevant connection and select Accounts

  3. Click the arrow next to the account you'd like to unlink and select Unlink account

Your unlinked feed accounts, both for the old card and the new, may show in the Unlinked accounts section. You'll need to link the NEW feed account to the old existing account.

  1. Click on Unlinked Feed Accounts

  2. The NEW credit card account will have "Don't link (ignore account)" automatically shown next to it, as it won't have the same account number as the old existing credit card account. This means that the old account will not be shown as a suggested link, and you'll need to choose the old existing account manually. Click on the dropdown to open it.

  3. From within the dropdown, select your old existing credit card account from the list. Once selected, click the SUBMIT button at the bottom.

  4. Your new feed account will now have been linked to the original account, and any new credit card transactions will continue to be imported into this account.
