How to manually import files when your bank feed is down

Unlinking your bank feeds from accounts and importing bank files 

If your bank feed is experiencing a problem you can import bank files to keep your accounts up to date while our team and our bank feed provider, Yodlee, investigates. 

However, when the issue is fixed and the bank feed syncs again, new transactions will import alongside transactions that you may have manually imported using bank files. This will cause duplicate transactions, which will need to be corrected!

To prevent this from happening, the bank feed needs to be unlinked from the account before files are imported. This means new transactions - from the bank feed - won't cause duplicates. Once the issue is resolved you can re-link the bank feed to the account to continue importing transactions via the bank feed automatically. 

Alert

You only want to unlink the feed, please do not delete the bank feed! Deleting a bank feed while we are investigating a problem prevents progress being made as, when the bank feed is deleted, all the information that we use to diagnose issues gets removed with it.

Steps to unlink a bank feed from an account

Head to the Account Summary page ( Accounts > Account Summary)

Find the account which needs to be unlinked

Click MANAGE ACCOUNT

Under Live bank feed, select Unlink feed account

You will then be asked to confirm that you would like to unlink the bank feed from the account

Note

Unlinking the bank feed will allow your account balance to update based on your imported transactions. If the bank feed is still connected your account will retain the incorrect bank feed balance.

You can then import your file as follows:

Head to the Account Summary page ( Accounts > Account Summary

Find the account which needs to be updated

Click MANAGE ACCOUNT > Import  bank file

Use Drag n drop to upload your file, or select Choose file to find the file you would like to import

If you're importing a CSV file, choose a CSV format or create a new format and assign the columns appropriately

You'll notice some different options can apply to the import. Make sure you chose the option Replace transactions on overlapping dates

Alert!

It's important that the correct option is selected here, otherwise, duplicate transactions may be created. See:  Bank file import options

Select Import my transactions

Relinking your bank feeds to existing accounts once an issue is resolved

Once your bank feeds are working again, reconnect your feeds to the existing accounts. It is important to take care to relink the bank feed to the correct account so that the existing account isn't duplicated. Follow the directions below to get your accounts relinked:

Head to the Account Summary page ( Accounts > Account Summary

Click Go in the Ready to link section

Your existing offline accounts will show and you'll be asked if you want to link offline accounts to a feed account. 

  • To link the existing offline account(s) to a feed, select the appropriate feed account from the drop-down. Repeat this for all applicable offline accounts, then, click NEXT

Your bank feed accounts will now have been re-established and a summary of the accounts that have been relinked will be shown.
