Transaction search: An overview

You can't find this transaction search?

This guide is for the new transaction search.

If you don't see this search within your PocketSmith app,  then you are using the legacy transactions search. To learn about the legacy search, head to this guide:  Using the legacy transaction search.

If you would like to change to the legacy transactions search, you can do so from User preferences > Your details and options

Using the transaction search

The transactions search helps you find and explore particular transactions.

You can define the parameters of a search based on the following criteria:

  • Dates
  • Amounts
  • Categories
  • Accounts
  • Merchant keywords
  • Labels
  • Expenses or income
  • Transfers or non-transfers
  • Currency

The search options available give you the ability to track down exactly what you are looking for and to also have much greater control over the types of saved searches you can create.

Read on for more insight into some of the possibilities to have a play with!

Steps to create a transaction search

  1. Head to the Transactions page
  2. Click on the search icon in the top right to open the transaction search bar
  3. Search keywords, look up past dates, transaction amounts, or select the advanced options icon to view more ways to explore your transactions
  4. Click on the arrow icon in the top left to hide the transactions search bar

A closer look at the transaction search options

Transaction date options

Use the Date search options to quickly show transactions between specific points in time, before or after particular dates, or on specific dates:

Transaction amount options

Search for transactions by specific amounts:

Note

The amount in the search is the absolute value and ignores any +/- signs.

If you want to refine your search further to only search income or expense transactions, you'll just need to utilise the Transaction type criteria and set this to "Income only" or "Expense only".

The example below shows a search for transactions that equal $200.

To only show expense transactions that equal $200, I select the Expenses option from the advanced criteria options:

Using the categories search

  1. Search for a parent or sub-category you are looking for
  2. Tick Include sub-categories if you would like the findings to include transactions assigned to these to show
  3. Add any additional criteria, such as a date range or an account, to refine your search even further

Search by specific accounts

  1. Select the account you would like to view
  2. Add any additional criteria, such as a date range or a category, to refine your search even further

Search for transactions with or without merchant keywords

  1. Enter the word(s) in the Merchant keywords search
  2. Select either the Merchant contains or Merchant does NOT contain option, depending on what you are after:

Note

Searching keywords is case-insensitive.

Searching for labels

Search for transactions that have been labelled with one or more specific labels.

  1. Select or search for the label
  2. Apply Any, All or None to refine your transaction search results further
