When a category can't be rolled-up
When using roll-up to analyse a sub-category within its parent category, both categories must have the same transfer setting. This alignment ensures your budget analysis is accurate by keeping compatible category types together.
If you've rolled up analysis on the Budget page or the Income & Expense Report, any incompatible categories will have an 🚫 appear next to the category icon on the left.
When you hover over the 🚫, an explanation will appear stating why you can't roll that category up into its parent category:
- If the parent category is designated as a transfer category, only sub-categories that are also transfer categories will be included in the roll-up.
- Conversely, if the parent category is a non-transfer (regular) category, only other regular categories will be combined with it.
You can still nest categories under one another regardless of their transfer status. However, if you wish to roll-up budget analysis for all nested categories, you must ensure that the transfer settings of the categories match. In most cases, this will involve reorganizing your categories to ensure they are nested under categories of the same type, or adjusting the transfer settings on a few categories to achieve consistency.
