'Import failed because there were no transactions to import'

While importing a bank file, you might get the following error message:

Import failed because there were no transactions to import

Import failed because there were no transactions to import

Why this error occurs

This error is likely due to the overlapping import options selected being Leave transactions on overlapping dates out. As well as all transactions within the file overlapping with the dates of the transactions already within PocketSmith for this account.

Example

If the file contains transactions from 1 January 2023 to 15 January 2023.

But this account within PocketSmith already contains transactions from 1 January 2023 to 15 January 2023, and the overlap option selected is Leave transactions on overlapping dates out

No transactions will be imported from the file, as the transactions within the file overlap with transactions already within PocketSmith.

How to fix

Change the import option to Replace transactions on overlapping dates

If you are trying to import transactions that are missing from PocketSmith, but they occur on dates that you already have transactions imported into PocketSmith, you can use the Replace transactions on overlapping dates import option.

Warning

This will delete any transactions within this account in PocketSmith that occur on the same date as the transactions within the file. So any edits made to these transactions will be lost, such as categories, labels or notes.

These overlapping transactions will only show in PocketSmith after this import if they are also included in the imported file.

To reduce the number of transactions replaced within PocketSmith, adjust the dates when exporting the file from your bank to have minimal overlap with existing transactions in PocketSmith.

For example, if the date of the last transaction in PocketSmith is 15 January 2023, then you should set a start date of the file exported from your bank to also be 15 January 2023.
