Adding a feed and establishing your accounts

Feeds are a convenient way to automatically fetch your transactions and import them into your linked accounts in PocketSmith ⚡️

Learn how to add a new Feed and establish your accounts in this handy guide.

Starting from the Checklist or Feeds page

If you have just signed up to PocketSmith, you will be introduced to your Checklist. From here, you can add feeds and set up new bank accounts. You can also add new feeds once you're already set up in PocketSmith from the Feeds page. Both options are covered below:

  1. Option A: The Checklist

From the Checklist, select the option  Link your accounts

    Option B: Feeds page

From the Feeds page (Manage > Feeds), and click + New Feed in the toolbar

  2. Enter your bank name in the search field and click SEARCH, or quickly select one of the bank icons provided

  3. Hover over the bank name and click + ADD FEED.

If you've previously added a feed to this bank, you will be asked to enter a Nickname. This is used to distinguish between different online banking login details e.g. your login vs your partner's login.

Use the information displayed within the search results to help you add the feed you had in mind.

Country - Your bank name will display under the country in which that financial institution is based

URL - Hover over the bank logo displayed next to the bank to confirm that the sign-in URL matches the online portal for your bank

Data provider - Many feeds are only available to add via one data provider, so you may find that your feed is easily identifiable from the results, using only the country and sign-in URL information

However, if there are multiple possible data providers for a feed, then the data provider stamp will say 'AKAHU', 'SALT EDGE' or 'YODLEE' next to the feed name.

In the example shown below, you can see these stamps clearly displayed, to show that some HSBC accounts are supported via Yodlee, and PSD2-compliant accounts are supported via Salt Edge:

If you are not sure which data provider supports your feed, it might help to know that many New Zealand banks are available to add via Akahu, PSD2-compliant UK/EU banks are supported via Salt Edge, and Yodlee are our global data partner for most global banks based outside the UK/EU.

Jump to:

Adding a Yodlee feed

  1. You've clicked + ADD FEED - your next step is to enter the same login details that you would usually use at your online banking site, and click SUBMIT.

  2. If you have additional security requirements for this feed, please click Authorize to complete the information and continue syncing.

  3. The first sync may take a few minutes to complete, so while waiting, we suggest grabbing a cuppa, or checking out some handy hints from the loading toolbar which displays at the bottom of the page.

Adding an Akahu feed

Note

If you have an existing New Zealand-based feed via Yodlee, you will need to delete this before you follow the below. You can find details on this here: Steps to remove a feed

Then, add the Akahu feed by selecting Search and add feed in the toolbar, searching for your New Zealand bank, and then selecting + ADD FEED.

  1. Click  + ADD FEED and then click  AUTHORIZE.

  2. You will then be taken to the Akahu Connect interface pop-up window. If you consent for Akahu to access your bank data, and provide PocketSmith ongoing access to this data, click Continue.

  3. Verify your email address with Akahu. Enter the email address associated with your PocketSmith account, and click Continue. This will send you an email with a verification code.

When you receive the email,  copy the code, and paste this into the Akahu Connect pop-up window.

  4. Enter the same login details that you would usually use at your online banking site, and click CONTINUE

  5. If required, enter the  PIN you use to access your banking app on your Mobile device.

    Note

You may receive alerts about a new device being registered for your bank's Mobile Banking app. These are normal security alerts and indicate that your account has been successfully connected.

    Examples:

  6. Each of your accounts will be listed. Tick all accounts you'd like to make available to PocketSmith to connect. You may need to scroll down to access them all. Then, select Connect.

  7. You can now close this Akahu Connect pop-up window, and head back to the Feeds page ( Manage  Feeds). An initial sync may take a few minutes, but once that's completed, you can then head to the next step of establishing your bank accounts in PocketSmith

Adding a Salt Edge feed

  1. You've clicked + ADD FEED - your next step is to authorize this feed, which is a requirement as per PSD2 regulations.

  2. After clicking AUTHORIZE, please read the consent information. If you consent for Salt Edge to access your bank data, tick the box and click Confirm.
  3. You’ll then be diverted to the secure online banking portal to enter your online banking login details, select accounts, and grant Salt Edge permission to access your data.
  4. After the feed is complete, you’ll be asked to close the window to return to PocketSmith. An initial sync may take a few minutes to complete. You can now head to establishing your bank accounts in PocketSmith

Linking your feed accounts to PocketSmith

Once your feed has been added to PocketSmith, you're ready to link your feed accounts to PocketSmith and have your transactions start flowing. To complete this, please follow one of the below guides:

1. If you're starting from scratch, follow the guide for linking your feed accounts to brand new accounts.

2. If you've already got existing accounts in PocketSmith, follow the guide for linking feed accounts to existing accounts.

Adding more than one set of credentials for an existing feed

PocketSmith allows you to add multiple credentials for one bank, which means you can connect your partner's accounts at the same bank or any other accounts you have at the same bank with different logins.

The process for adding a second set of credentials varies depending on the data provider for your feed:

Auto-categorize transactions

When adding a new bank feed, the option to have  Auto-categorize transactions is enabled by default. However, you can turn this off at any time.

For more detail please see: Auto-categorize transactions

Keeping your feed up-to-date in PocketSmith

To ensure your feeds are syncing correctly and your transactions are being kept up to date, we recommend logging into your PocketSmith account a minimum of once every 4 weeks but more often is even better!

If your feed requires additional security information, then you will need to log into PocketSmith at least once every 4 weeks to respond to security requirements to sync your feed and keep your transactions up to date. If you do not sync your feed for over 4 weeks, this may result in missing transactions.

If your feed does not require additional security information, we still recommend logging in at least once every 4 weeks. This allows you to spot any errors affecting your feed and ensures your feed regularly updates, according to our automatic syncing schedule.
